Decks & Fences Built to Endure Oregon Storms

In the Pacific Northwest, relentless autumn rainfall, winter windstorms, and wet ground cause poorly built fences to lean and unsealed decks to rot within five years. Rubi Construction LLC builds with frost-depth concrete footings, post-base standoff anchors, butyl joist tape, and hand-selected Western Red Cedar or capped composites engineered for thirty years of durability.

Deck & Fence FAQs

Straightforward answers on cedar longevity, composite decking maintenance, footings, and Oregon building codes.

Why is Western Red Cedar superior to treated fir for Oregon fences?

Western Red Cedar contains natural extractives and tannins that naturally repel fungal decay, moisture absorption, and Pacific Northwest insect pests. Unlike treated pine or fir pickets that warp, twist, and crack in wet cycles, cedar remains dimensionally stable and ages gracefully.

How do you prevent deck rot under the deck boards?

We apply heavy-duty waterproof butyl joist tape (such as Trex Protect) across the top of every pressure-treated joist, rim joist, and ledger board before laying decking. This seals screw penetrations and prevents rainwater from sitting between the deck boards and timber framing.

How deep do you set fence and deck footing posts?

We excavate footings 30 to 36 inches deep, well beneath the local frost line. We pack 4 to 6 inches of crushed drainage rock into the base of each hole to allow water to drain away from the bottom of the post, then pour 3,000+ PSI concrete.

Does Rubi Construction LLC handle permits and CCB compliance directly?

Yes. Rubi Construction LLC is licensed under Oregon CCB #216419. Our team manages building department permits, engineering calculations for elevated decks over 30 inches, and oversees every installation directly.
